Google’s OS released as an open source project

Google Chromium OS
We have been following the stories and tales behind the Google Chrome OS for a while now waiting for something interesting to come out the wood work. The moment has now come with Google announcing that the project will be made open source as Chromium OS, much like the open source version of Chrome known as, yes you guessed it, Chromium.
The Chromium OS project comes along about a year before Google plan to release a user ready version of the OS. This leaves plenty of time for partners, the open source community and developers to contribute to the project before the final release. First thoughts are that Google are milking the open source community for all we are worth. No I’m not complaining to much because in the end the product will still be free. Let’s be honest, they would be nothing without us!
The main focus points on the OS are speed and security. There are various features that make this happen already such as each app running in it’s own security sandbox and as many processes removed as possible. A cool feature I saw was that the OS will always check the integrity of the file system and attempt to fix it if there is a problem. This may make the OS a bit bloated but it is something that every OS should have including Mr Windows.
